This year was the London debut of the World Money Show, an event that combines a trading and investment exhibition with a range of free and paid for seminars, discussion panels and product presentations.

Being the first time that Intershow, the US based organisers, had held the event in the UK, I was particularly interested to see how it would all work out. Having attended many trading events over the years I am writing this review from the perspective of a visitor. As you’ll have seen elsewhere on the site we were also exhibiting as the show.

The event was held at the QEII Conference Centre which I liked a great deal. For those who aren’t familiar with the venue, it is in an impressive setting surrounded by Parliament, Westminster Abbey and The Central Methodist hall and offering very good transportation links.

The exhibition halls and seminar rooms were as you would expect from a show of this nature and all facilities were clean and efficient. There were no delays and the registration desks and the whole event, which was spread over five floors, was clearly signposted making it easy for visitor’s to work out where they should be!

Whilst the exhibitor and speaker list certainly reflected the global nature of the show many of the people I spoke with were British. I don’t know if this was because few people from other countries attended or simply because I was speaking to the wrong people!

There was a diverse range of seminars on offer, both free and paid for, and they thankfully avoided the in your face sales pitch usually found when something is free. I noticed that many of the early morning seminars were fairly empty, with the afternoon seminars having a noticeably higher attendance. I think this was down to timing – with the Americans being far more eager to start early than us more laid back Europeans! I think a 10am start would be more appropriate next time.

The show guide was particularly thorough and it was good to see everything laid out so clearly. It also provides information on all speakers and exhibitors which will no doubt prove useful in the weeks after the show when visitors are still digesting all of the information they obtained at the show…
